a year with frog and toad

Director’s Note

A Year with Frog and Toad is a beautiful story, with a powerful message to savor the simplest of life’s movements.  Since its Broadway cast recording was released in 2004, I enjoyed listening to its catchy and upbeat score, and appreciated its witty and clever lyrics.  However, once I had children, it became a favorite of mine. Over the last few years, I used this musical and Arnold Lobel’s source material to calm my children when they were upset, entertain them when they needed a distraction, and help them understand the life concepts that can be difficult for a parent to break down.  Frog and toad show us through their simple adventures, the profound influence that seemingly small and ordinary moments in life can have.  They encourage us to embrace each other’s quirks and idiosyncrasies.  And perhaps most importantly, they remind us to take time to celebrate and find joy in all that nature has to offer. Enjoy the show and tell a friend so they can enjoy it too!
